Berkeley Classics Hosts International Conference on “The Genres of Archaic and Classical Greek Poetry: Theories and Models” Sept. 24-27

The Classics Department will host the major biennial conference of the international Network for the Study of Archaic and Classical Greek Song at Berkeley September 24-27. The topic of the conference is GENRE, and how we define and conceive of genre and the system of genres in archaic and classical Greece (for a full description of the topic or for the complete schedule of talks, use the links below this story). There will be 24 speakers from all over the world presenting on their research, beginning with a Keynote Address by Professor Gregory Nagy of Harvard University on Thursday September 24 at 7 pm. Of the 24 speakers, two are faculty currently teaching at Berkeley; two are Berkeley PhD candidates; and six more are Berkeley PhDs who now teach at institutions all over the US (so this conference is also something of a Berkeley reunion).

In addition to the sponsorship of the Network for the Study of Archaic and Classical Greek Song, this conference has been made possible by generous support from the Berkeley Departments of Classics and Comparative Literature, the Townsend Center for the Humanities, and the Dean of Arts & Humanities. The conference is free and open to the public; no registration required.
